The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Burkina Faso respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information the Embassy collects through this website, why it collects it, how long it keeps it, who may receive it and what rights you have over it.
The Embassy handles personal information in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and with the principles of data protection that are recognised internationally: information is collected for a clear purpose, limited to what that purpose needs, kept accurate, kept no longer than necessary and protected against loss or misuse.
Who is responsible for your information
The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Burkina Faso, Abuja House, Avenue Kwame Nkrumah, Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, is responsible for the personal information collected through this website. You can write to the Embassy about this policy at info@nigeriaembassy-bf.org. All the contact details of the Embassy are on the Contact page.
Information you give the Embassy
This website has no forms: it does not take applications, requests or messages, and it does not keep a mailing list. The pages describe the procedures and give the Embassy's contact details.
Visa applications
Visa applications are made on the official portals of the Nigeria Immigration Service, which handles the information you give there.
Consular procedures
When you ask for consular registration, an emergency travel document or the authentication of a document, by telephone, by email or at the consular counter, the Embassy collects the information needed for that procedure. The Embassy only asks for what the procedure requires.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, the web server keeps a technical log of requests, which can include your IP address, the date and time of your visit, the page requested and the type of browser you use. The Embassy uses these logs only to keep the website secure and working, and to investigate misuse.
Cookies
This website does not use advertising cookies or audience measurement cookies, and it does not track you across other websites. A session cookie is set only when a member of the Embassy's staff logs in to manage the website. You can block or delete cookies at any time in the settings of your browser without affecting your use of the public pages.
Why the Embassy uses your information
- to examine and process your consular request, which is part of the Embassy's official functions;
- to answer your messages and questions;
- to contact you about your application, for example to ask for a missing document;
- to keep the website secure.
The Embassy does not sell your information, does not use it for marketing and does not use it to make automated decisions about you.
Who may receive your information
Your information is handled by the authorised staff of the Embassy. Where a procedure requires it, the Embassy shares the relevant information with the competent Nigerian authorities, in particular the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This means that information may be transferred to Nigeria. The Embassy may also disclose information where the law requires it. The technical service provider that hosts the website can access the data stored on the server only to the extent needed to keep the website running, and only on the Embassy's instructions.
How long the information is kept
The Embassy keeps personal information only for as long as it needs it for the purpose for which it was collected. Messages sent to the Embassy are kept for as long as needed to answer them and follow up the request. Information connected with a visa application or a consular procedure is kept for the period required by the Nigerian rules that govern consular and immigration records. Technical logs are kept for a limited period for security purposes. When information is no longer needed, it is deleted or made anonymous.
Security
The Embassy applies technical and organisational measures to protect your information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. Access to the information you give the Embassy is limited to the staff who need it to handle your request. No transmission over the internet is entirely secure, so do not send sensitive documents by ordinary email unless the Embassy asks you to.
Your rights
You can ask the Embassy:
- to tell you whether it holds information about you and to give you a copy of it;
- to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- to delete information that is no longer needed, unless the Embassy must keep it;
- to restrict the use of your information, or object to it, in the cases the law provides for;
- to withdraw a consent you have given, without affecting what was done before you withdrew it.
To exercise these rights, write to the Embassy at info@nigeriaembassy-bf.org, and include a copy of an identity document so that the Embassy can make sure it is dealing with you. The Embassy answers as soon as possible and in any case within one month. If you are not satisfied with the answer, you can contact the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Changes to this policy
The Embassy may update this policy when the website or the law changes. The version published on this page is the one that applies. This policy was last updated on 6 October 2026.
